Arena rock superstars Bon Jovi have tapped emo band Dashboard Confessional to open the group’s March 23 and 24 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.
Bon Jovi have amassed a catalog of hit singles and millions of fans with saccharine, candy-coated power pop anthems like “Living On a Prayer,” “You Give Love a Bad Name,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” “It’s My Life” and “Bad Medicine.”
Dashboard Confessional, on the other hand, earned national recognition for its tender love ballad, “Hands Down.” These guys are the poster children for the emo generation. I’ve listened to many a Dashboard song and I can honestly say I’ve never felt like rocking some serious karaoke or high-fiving a friend when I was finished.
Put it this way: Bon Jovi is the kind of guilty-pleasure band that makes you feel good about yourself (sort of). Dashboard Confessional writes the kind of music that would put my grandmother to sleep.
How these two wound up on the same bill is beyond me.
