Giants & Jets to host Super Bowl 2014

Giants & Jets to host Super Bowl 2014 at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

Team owners will confirm the whisper vote today

Tickets for Super Bowl 2014 will be onsale next year at Tixx.com

RVING, TEX. – The buzz in the lobby of the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Las Colinas is building in anticipation of the announcement for the 2014 Super Bowl site. Before the 32 NFL owners cast their secret-ballot votes this afternoon, the three bid committees will make their pitches beginning at approximately 2:45 pm EST.

The order of the first 15-minute presentations was determined by a random draw. The final five-minute plea will be done in reverse order.

The New York/New Jersey bid has the best possible strategic position. They will go first for the 15-minute presentations and last for the five-minute pitches.

Here’s how it’ll work:

  1. Giants treasurer Jon Tisch and Meadowlands Stadium president and CEO Mark Lamping will make a 15-minute Power Point and video presentation to the owners beginning around 2:45 pm EST. Tampa is second followed by South Florida. Gary Myers and I just spoke to Lamping and Tisch, who are confident and loose. Lamping admitted he was more anxious at this point than anything else.
  2. After the 15-minute presentations, Frank Supovitz, the NFL’s senior vice president of events, will give the owners a comparative analysis of the three bids.
  3. The three contenders will have one final five-minute plea to the owners. South Florida will go first followed by Tampa. Then, Jets owner Woody Johnson and Giants co-owner John Mara will speak during their final five-minute pitch.
  4. Commissioner Roger Goodell will make the official announcement at approximately 4 p.m. EST live on the NFL Network.
  5. News conferences will follow.

Mike McCaskey of the Bears will count the NFC owners’ votes. Clark Hunt of the Chiefs will count the AFC owners’ votes (passed down from his father, Lamar).

John Mara had counted the NFC votes after his father, Wellington, passed away, but he won’t this year due to a conflict of interest.

when you cant sell 2nd row center you cancel the tour!

Seems like Christina Aguilera just announced her summer tour. And now she has canceled it.

here is the real scoop, she way overpriced her tickets. Christina Aguilera is a shed act and shed acts are supposed to play for the following prices lawn $25-30 , reserved seats $65 – $85 plus all the BS ticketmaster livenation fees.

According to a statement from Live Nation, the tour promoter, the singer felt she didn’t have enough time to rehearse because of her new movie, Burlesque, due out in November, and her new album, Bionic, to be released June 8. Her 20-date tour was set to begin in July.

New dates will be announced later this year, according to the statement.

U2 Postpones Tour as Bono Recovers From Surgery

U2 Postpones Tour as Bono Recovers From Surgery
By DAVE ITZKOFF

An injury sustained by the U2 frontman Bono has forced the group to postpone its American tour and cancel its appearance at a major British rock festival while he recovers from emergency surgery on his back, Reuters reported.

On Friday the band announced that it would reschedule the North American opening date of its “360°’’ tour in Salt Lake City on June 3 after Bono was injured during a rehearsal and underwent surgery on his back in Munich. The tour has already grossed $109 million since it started last year and has been predicted to bring in the largest gate ever.

On Tuesday U2 said that it would have to reschedule dates through July 19, when the band was to perform at Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. In a statement on the band’s Web site, the group’s manager Paul McGuinness, said:
Our biggest and I believe best tour has been interrupted and we’re all devastated. For a performer who lives to be on stage, this is more than a blow. He feels robbed of the chance to do what he does best and feels like he has badly let down the band and their audience. Which is of course nonsense. His concerns about more than a million ticket buyers whose plans have been turned upside down, we all share, but the most important thing right now is that Bono make a full recovery. We’re working as fast as we can with Live Nation to reschedule these dates.
U2 also said it would cancel its performance at the Glastonbury Festival in Britain at the end of June. On the U2 Web site, Bono said: “I’m heartbroken. We really wanted to be there to do something really special – we even wrote a song especially for the Festival.”

Bret Michaels makes it to New York

Even after a spokesperson for Bret Michaels has said that they are “cautiously optimistic” about his attendance at the finale, good ol’ Bret still boarded a private jet headed for New York.

While en route to the Big Apple, the plane had to make a quick detour in Nashville after Bret “complained of a headache, lower back pain and some cramping in the legs.”

The rocker and his team felt it was okay to continue though, and he’s currently on his way to meet The Donald and face off against Holly Robinson Peete!

Good luck, buddy!

May 18 (Bloomberg) — The New York Mets are giving some former season-ticket holders free admission to this weekend’s games versus the New York Yankees in an effort to improve sagging attendance.

“We have invited a select group of former season- ticket holders to one of this weekend’s subway series games as a way of reconnecting with some of our long-standing customers,” the team said in an e-mailed statement.

Through 21 home dates at Citi Field, including one double-header, the Mets have drawn an average of 31,891 fans, which is 11th best among Major League Baseball’s 30 franchises. A season ago, when the Mets opened their new stadium, they averaged 38,941 fans, seventh best in baseball. The decline is the biggest of any team in the major leagues when compared with the same period last year.

The giveaway will be for high-priced premium seats that likely wouldn’t have sold, according to Newsday, which reported the Mets’ plans yesterday.

TicketsNow, 360 Deals a Drag for Live Nation

TicketsNow, 360 Deals a Drag for Live Nation
May 10, 2010 – Touring

By Glenn Peoples, Nashville

In its first quarter results on Monday, the first since its merger with Ticketmaster, Live Nation pointed to progress with its integration as well as its recent debt refinancing. The most important comments, however, were about its struggling secondary ticketing site and the doubt surrounding one or more of its multi-rights contracts.

From January 25, the day of the merger, through March 31, Live Nation recorded revenue of $723 million and a net loss of $112 million. The company said it is on track to realize $40 million in cost savings this year.

As a promoter, Live Nation generated total attendance of 6,835,000, a 2% drop from last year. Concert revenue fell 1.2% to $408 million. As a ticketing company, Live Nation sold 25.1 million tickets with a gross value of $1.5 billion in the first quarter. Concerts represented 52% of the company’s ticket sales while sports were 19%, arts and theater were 14% and family was 11%. Artist Nation, the company’s artist management division, had revenue of $69.4 million. The sponsorships division generated $21.2 million while e-commerce grossed $18.1 million.

Given that the companies merged in Q1, there is no comparable prior-year period against which to judge Live Nation’s performance. But the earnings call did contain some useful bits of information regarding Live Nation’s multi-rights contracts, the disappointing performance of TicketsNow and the company’s emphasis on reclaiming the value being captured by ticket brokers.

• Some multi-rights deals won’t pay off as hoped. Live Nation recorded a $13.4 allowance related to collectability concerns of certain, unnamed artist advances. In other words, the company has recorded an expense now because it does not expect to recoup some of the advances it paid out to big-name artists. Investors were wary of those multi-rights deals, and Live Nation has not entered into one since its signed Shakira to a ten-year deal in July 2008.

• TicketsNow revenues have fallen sharply and Live Nation’s secondary ticketing division is losing money. “We currently are not having success in that division,” Rapino said. TicketsNow is now making $1 million to $2 million, he explained, rather than the roughly $15 million it used to make. Why the difference? Since Live Nation had to de-link TicketsNow from Ticketmaster, he explained, revenue has “deteriorated.” That de-linking is part of a February 2009 settlement between the Attorney General of New Jersey and Ticketmaster that arose from complains about ticket sales for a Bruce Springsteen show in the state. A virtual wall was created between TicketsNow and Ticketmaster, assuring Ticketmaster.com visitors would not be re-rerouted to more expensive tickets at TicketsNow. Rapino said the company is exploring strategic options for TicketsNow.

• Live Nation is looking for growth through pricing, not through fees from its secondary ticketing sites. The growth in ticketing revenue, Rapino said, will come not from secondary service fees but by figuring out how to use seat maps and dynamic pricing to capture the “billion dollars in upsell on the face value of tickets.” By “upsell” he means about the difference between the final price paid and the face value. A ticket broker is able to capture the final price while a ticketing company collects only the face value. In many cases, the final price is many times higher than the face value. Rapino added the company’s desire to capture received “great reception” from artists worldwide who want to capture more of that value that is currently being taken by brokers.

• Live Nation the promoter is still taking service fees from tickets sold by Ticketmaster. During the Q&A portion of the call, Rapino confirmed that Live Nation records ticketing revenue from service fees in addition to the concert revenue it makes as a promoter. So, even though Live Nation and Ticketmaster are now part of the same company, the old practice of the promoter taking a chunk of ticketing service fees continues. That means Live Nation’s concert division continues to get a numbers boost from service fees.
