There was a festive party at the Imperial Theatre after the show on Friday, November 13th with director Stephen Daldry and the Tony Award winning cast of Billy Elliot as they celebrated their one year anniversary.

Billy Elliot the Musical is the funny, heartwarming tale of a young boy with a dream, and a celebration of his triumph against the odds.

Set against the historic British miners’ strike of the 1980s, the story follows Billy’s journey as a boy in a small mining town who, after stumbling across a ballet class while on his way to a boxing lesson, realizes that his future lay not in the boxing ring but on stage as a dancer.

Billy Elliot: The Musical has extended its run at The Victoria Palace Theatre by eight months. Tickets are now on sale until 18 December, 2010.

The smash-hit musical, opened 11 May, 2005 following previews from 31 March, 2005 and received outstanding reviews.

Charles Spencer for The Daily Telegraph says, “Billy Elliot strikes me as the greatest British musical I have ever seen.”
